Ford has officially unveiled the comprehensive facelift for the 2026 model year of its iconic family sedan, the Mondeo, which has been withdrawn from European and US markets but continues production in China.

The fifth-generation Mondeo, produced in partnership with Changan Ford, was unveiled for the first time at the Guangzhou Auto Show. The refreshed model features significant upgrades in both style and power.

The exterior design retains the vehicle’s familiar modern design and fluid lines. The door handles are still recessed into the body. The refreshed design features a larger front grille, sharply defined headlights, updated bumpers, and taillights.

The LED light pattern on the taillights, in particular, has been updated to reflect Ford’s new design language. The facelift gives the sedan a distinct Mustang feel.

Moving to the interior, the dual-screen layout across the dashboard remains. This layout comprises a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 27-inch infotainment screen. The real innovation in the cockpit comes in the software.

The next-generation SYNC+ system now runs on the powerful Snapdragon 8155 chipset. This chipset brings a smoother interface and a more responsive voice assistant. Inside, physical buttons have been relocated below the air conditioning vents.

This change visually tidies up the cockpit and improves ergonomics. The center console has also been redesigned, featuring dual wireless charging ports and new cupholders.

The vehicle’s engine lineup boasts a significant power increase. The 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine now produces 196 horsepower, while the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit reaches 261 horsepower.

The top-of-the-line hybrid system delivers a full 288 horsepower, placing it in a strong position in its segment. The gasoline engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, while the hybrid system is paired with a CVT.

The facelifted 2026 Mondeo, which continues to exist thanks to production in China, is offered in the Chinese market with prices ranging from 150,000 to 230,000 yuan (approximately $21,200-$32,500). While the new Mondeo won’t hit European roads, some design choices or technological innovations tested in these models could be reflected in other Ford vehicles we see on the global market in the future.
